VT1300 Exhaust Common Questions, Removal & Install

1. Timeframes

Typical turnaround time is 4–8 weeks, depending on workload and time of year.

  • Response time: 24–48 hours

  • You will receive three emails:

    1. Welcome Email

    2. Coating Confirmation

    3. Tracking Information

If your order extends beyond 8 weeks, we will provide an update.

2. Warranty

Your exhaust is covered under a limited warranty.

  • Covers cracks or chips in the coating upon delivery

  • Photos must be submitted before installation

  • Product must be inspected prior to install

👉 Once installed, the product is considered accepted

SLK-Customs is not liable for injury, damage, or incidental loss resulting from use or installation.

3. Fitment

If the exhaust feels tight during installation, this is normal.

  • Install the rear header first, then pull the front header into position

  • Do not force the fit

👉 If you have any concerns, contact us before proceeding

4. Riding

Your riding position may need slight adjustment to avoid contact with the pipes.

  • Be mindful of leg placement

  • Avoid resting against the pipes during operation

5. Tuning (Important)

Proper tuning is strongly recommended.

Improper tuning can cause:

  • Excessive heat

  • Coating damage

  • Reduced performance

We recommend using a Power Commander V (Model #16-025) or a properly tuned setup.

6. Installation & Clearance

  • Ensure pipes are properly aligned and not touching other components

  • After installation, adjust the top and bottom mounting bolts to achieve proper clearance

These pipes generate enough heat to melt plastic or damage nearby components if not positioned correctly.
They are designed not to contact transmission covers or surrounding parts and should not be resting against them at any point.

👉 SLK-Customs is not liable for any damage to surrounding components or hardware caused by improper installation or clearance issues

7. Exhaust Wrapping

  • Wrapping your pipes will void all warranties.

8. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean with mild soap and water

  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning

  • Regular cleaning helps prevent buildup, staining, and corrosion

Exposure to road debris, chemicals, and moisture (including rain) can affect the coating over time.
Improper care is not covered under warranty.

9. Rain & Road Conditions

Riding in wet conditions can expose the pipes to moisture, debris, and chemicals.

  • Clean and dry your pipes after riding in the rain

  • Regular maintenance helps prevent corrosion and buildup

10. Something Burned Onto the Pipes

If you experience boot scuffs or material melted onto the pipes, there are a few removal options depending on severity.

Lower-risk methods:

  • Mild soap and water

  • A damp Magic Eraser used gently can help remove rubber or light scuffs

For more stubborn buildup (use caution):

  • Very light wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper, followed by a chrome/black polish and buffing

👉 Use extreme care. Improper technique may damage the coating and is not covered under warranty

  • Start by removing the muffler assembly, which is secured to the exhaust bracket with two bolts.

  • Next, loosen the two pipe clamps that secure the muffler to the header pipes. Gently work the muffler assembly until it releases from the headers.

  • Remove the exhaust bracket (secured to the frame with two bolts).

Install the rear header first. Then align and pull the front header into place until it seats properly.

Final Curing Process

When starting your bike for the first time after installation:

  • Let the bike idle for 15 minutes to allow the coating to cure

  • Turn the bike off and allow the exhaust to cool completely
